In this video i have shown iphone dead repair, how to find
faulty component or short on iphone logic board Not just one but there were
multiple problems on this iphone. There are several ways to find the faulty or
shorted component on the iphone logic borad. But before i go into details of
how to find a short on the logic board or any logic board it is important to
know what a “short” means in electronics.
A short circuit on PCB board refers to a condition in which
electricity strays outside the established pathway of an electrical circuit. A
short circuit happens when electrical flow completes its circuit journey via a
shorter distance than is present in the established. On iphones there are two
types of short ” in put short” and ” output short”. In most cases if the iphone
is not liquid damaged usually it is a burnt capacitor that can create short on
the iphone.
How to find shorted component on iphone logic board.
There are different ways you can find a shorted component on
iphone logic board. The most commonly used method is supplying power to logic
board with external power supply and check or feel with your hands where the
log board is heating. With this method it is pretty hard to determine exactly
which component is heating because there are components which you can see
clearly on under microscope.
Isopropyl alcohol is easily available solution and can help
to find which component is heating. You
can also use freeze spray which is shown in the video.
If both of above methods fail to conclude or find the faulty
module or part. Thermal camera is best solution as shown in the video.. Watch

We tested volts on magsafe and getting right voltage and nothing wrong with dc jack it suppling correct voltages. In this case first thing to do is to check the power rails from schematic diagram. Because magsafe charger light is turning on from green to yellow that means adapter sense is working but cpu not turning on so thus gives us idea that cpu vcore line might be faulty.
We checked ppvcc_s0_cpu we checked R7320 where we should get 1.5V but there is no volts on cpu rail. We find short on CPU vcore line. Having short on cpu line means macbook will not turn on.

Next thing to do is to find which part on cpu vcore line is faulty and creating the short? I also recommend not to clean a water damage macbook board before you examine it. Ultrasonic cleaning will wash any evidence which can make repair easier. I find C7374 capacitor little bit of moisture and sticky substance by one side of it. This gave me little bit of indication that this capacitor may be faulty. From schematic diagram i confirm this is same line ppvcc_s0_cpu.

I removed the suspected capacitor and tested with multimeter and short is gone. Got the same capacitor from a donor board soldered it back and macbook wturns on and fixed.

How we will diagnose the problem?
Firstly, we will check the backlight fuse. Let’s put the multi-meter in continuity mode and check the backlight fuse. If backlight fuse is fine then check the other capacitors near the backlight. If the capacitors near the backlight is all good. Then, check the lcd connectors. If you see a red trigger i.e. macbook is liquid damage.You can watch some more information on same kind of repair here

After that we have to check the lines. Firstly, we would like to check the J8300 lcd fcp connector, check the two backlight terminals which are SOSW_LCDBKLT. Before that we have to turn on macbook and check with multi-meter and we are getting 1.9V which is way lower than what we should get on backlight. Backlight won’t turn on 1.9V. We are not getting enough power that’s why macbook Air A1466 turns on but no display backlight repairBacklight is directly connected to (U7701). We can clearly see the board is moisture damage.
